I have been working with Kroger for a year now doing recipe development for them. So when I got an invite from them a few months ago to attend their first blogger banquet in Cincinnati, I was all in for sure. There was so much anticipation and excitement for the trip. My friend Holly of The Modern Proper and I came the night before and got to explore the city a bit, grab some dinner and take a nice stroll through the city. What a gorgeous city, have you ever been? It was my first time. The beautiful architecture of this city, old touches of history of the buildings, the renovations of new parts of the city were all so much fun to explore.
We got an agenda for a full day filled with an opportunity to mingle with other influential food bloggers from all over the U.S., as well as Kroger executive leadership.
The day started with a short walk from our hotel to the Kroger headquarters, a yummy breakfast was served, with the above views from the Kroger offices, then they announced that we are all getting presents…. yes presents, it was Christmas in October. How cool was that? Each blogger got to open their wrapped gift boxes they received, the box included top 5 items we buy using our savings cards, we were all to share why the items we got are our favorite. Mine had raspberries, gum, pita bread, my favorite rosemary crackers and of course avocados to make avocado toasts and roses.
There was a presentation about Kroger’s digital innovation, designed to make shopping easier and more convenient. We got to learn about the updates for the online store, and how we can make a easy grocery list of our favorite items, without leaving your home, office or car. And what better way to do that, using ClickList, where you don’t even get out of your car to do the shopping. You do it on your computer or phone, select what you want to buy from your shopping list you created, choose the store nearest with a ClickList station, drive up, pay and they load it for you. How cool is that huh? Is ClickList available at the Kroger store near you? Have you try it yet?
We took a break and had some fun in the photo booth taking silly pictures with lots of fun props and lots of confetti.
Then, we moved to a different floor to meet up with the people behind Simple Truth & Private selection and HemisFares products. We got to learn what’s in store for the future, what new items and flavors are coming to the store. And of course we got more food, it wouldn’t be a food bloggers day without more food. We got to taste a delicious spread of cheeses, olives and meats from Spain and Italy. There were some veggies too, I promise. I loved hearing the stories of where some of these items came from. Always great knowing that they carry some fantastic options made in the countries they come from.
You wont guess what happen next, we got more food, yep, you heard me right, more food. This time we sampled some delectable olive oils, butter, salad, pastas and other dishes that they carry in the frozen section for a quick family meal of super fresh items frozen for easy reheat and enjoyment for those busy days. There were great healthy options. But then we got samples of HemisFares gelato… my favorite was the espresso one for sure.
We got to take home a goodie bag filled with a tasty balsamic vinegar, root veggie chips (one of my favorite healthy snacks) and much more. Then they gave us all an ugly Christmas sweater to wear for our next adventure. Our next field trip led us to pile in a bus, sing Christmas carols, take more fun photos and videos before we arrived to shop at one of their most innovative stores. We got to pick up some of the items we ordered using Click List while we were at the office. Then we got to do a tour of the beautiful grocery store. One of my favorite parts about the store is that they have a bar, where you can order a glass of wine or a beer on tap and enjoy it while you shop… seriously how cool is that. We got to sample some delicious cheeses from Murray’s Cheese and hear more about their brand and take home some of their goodies.
Next, we shopped for the rest of the ingredients we needed to create a holiday dish to share at our Christmas in October dinner with everyone who attended. I created a colorful spaghetti dish that was tossed with browned butter, roasted butternut squash, roasted garlic, sun dried tomatoes, hazelnuts, crispy sage and fresh parmesan cheese. Recipe for my dish will be available in my next blog post. It was simply delicious and I can’t wait to share it with you guys.
For now that’s it. Need to save the rest of the story and continue it in the next blog post. I hope you enjoyed hearing about my adventures and seeing some photos of this beautiful city.
The above is a fun photo of myself, Andrew who is my awesome Kroger go to person and Holly from The Modern Proper blog.
Below are a few of my favorite details of the city that I captured on the trip. Until next time friends.
